Physical
Apparently, yoga balls are a miracle. As soon as we both got it pumped it up he sat on it, rolled over it, and soon afterward had several verbal communication leaps. He actually went through 3 or 4 yoga moves with on his own over 30 minutes. This eliminated all his stimming behavior

Sleeping
I am adding this because of the UC Davis video I watched 2 nights ago. 15 minutes after falling asleep, he woke back up and started laughing for 15 seconds or so. Apparently, this is a “bad thing” that he has never done before. However, he has real emotion and was never adverse to eye contact etc. Its a bit tragic the things that are lost in translation between clinical research and pop culture.

Speech
Jake has started to say “wash hands” on his own, all at once, explosively. He went from never saying it to once yesterday, to 4 times today.

Motor Sensory
We are noticing alot of classic stimming behavior today. Mom has been gone for a day now. However, after doing sitting and bouncing and some downward pressure bounces on the jumpers and trampoline yesterday, he seems to have already acquired the motor memory.

Went back to the indoor playground. Today, he went on all the thigns he didnt go on yesterday but wouldnt go up the slides and i decided not to go up myself today. He usually will go if I go up first. However, today he tried and successfully interacted with the other kids, all older per usual. I guess nobody takes 2 year olds to these places and that most 2 year olds dont go down 2 story slides. A young girl was really trying to get him to come up the fire truck ladder, and he was having a blast sitting there at the bottom on the jumpers watching the kids come down, laughin, downing countdowns etc. A couple older kids saw how we were doing high fives and as they came around doing laps with the slides, they all would run by Jake and give him a high five. What cool kids, I think its obvious to everyone that Jake is autistic, and those kids were all trying to get him to join in. Jake loved it, he was interacting with them all doing the high fives.
We also played air hockey, he doesnt quite have a hang of it, but, we had fun. He picks things up so fast it will be interesting to see how long it takes him to learn. Emili and I seem to be the only parents that kid on all the rides and things at the places, funny, people are so uptight.

Language
I noticed he using adverbs and adjectives that we do in play therapy, and using them appropriately. He also told meema to “stay” as she came down the stairs to go to the playground today, but she came anyway.

Oral Tactile
He was able to make brownies today with hardly any interaction from me. He poured in everything perfectly etc. This is a good activity because when it comes to mixing after the dry ingredients go in, he gets upset at the inbetween texture. I think the next time we do this, I can get him over this one hump about having food items assuming perfect patterns.

We noticed last night that Jakes eyes completely dialate when he is eating. Going to keep an ete on this and adjust lights tonight to see what happens. Also, having now read 3 books from autistics and serious medical journals, I am understanding why he rubs his eyes during eating. He is either getting alot of pain, or, he is hallucinating. I suspect its both because over the summer, he would pinch us and say “ouch” when we were trying to feed him, and he continues to do play acting narratives in empty visual space when he is eating, like he is interacting with geometric shapes in the air above our heads. I think that he must have dendryite clustering with high level longitudnal pattern recognition, auditory (he sticks fingers in his ears only when he is eating, usually luaghing when he does it (auditory hallucinations?)… all triggered by a sense with eating, be it taste or texture or smell. He smelled the DHA in a food the other day, so, I am still thinking about how I am going to pump DHA into his body.

Motor Sensory
Took Jake to a indoor playground that has sensory components. Although the inflatables were 3 and up, they let him on all of them. He loved it. He went up and down the scariest and biggest slide which had a tunnel w/ no lights that went to a ladder. I couldnt see Jake and when I didnt see him come out at the top I went in to see what had happened. He was at the very top of the ladder, 2 stories off the ground at a point that was nearly vertical. It was impossible for him to get onto the deck because he wasnt tall enough. He wasnt freaked out, just there on the ladder in a prone position, hehehe.

He did very well on the normal jumpers but had a fear of the ones that had a half circle entrance w/ a net. Interestingly, he went up to just about every adult, looked tham in the face and sometimes touched their legs if he had to to get their attention. He waved or waited for them to smile and say hi, I think, because he seeks reinforcement and interacts well with adults. He would run away happy after the brief encounters. He still silly to watch run with arms flapping like crazy.

He is really wanting to play the stretch game a came up with which is really reinforcing the vestibular and proprioceptive seeking.

Had a giggling fit when grandma played farm animals noises with his farm puzzle. He put them in a circle and she made the animal noises but when it came to the animals like turtles that don’t speak, she said “I can’t talk”. I think he knows exactly what this means and was identifying with the animals. This was continued into lengthy imaginary play the next day, which, he seems to have been thriving on.

Jake fell asleep in a chair with me. 15 minutes in, he had a 4 to 5 second full body shaking seizure. He rolled over on me in the middle of it and remained asleep.
